‘The Wiz’ at The Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York

‘The Wiz’ 

The show will be performed from 26th-28th March 2015. 

He’s The Wiz and he lives in Oz! He’s also the man Dorothy needs to help her get back home to Kansas! But in this modern, urban version of the much-loved The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Dorothy’s journey through the surreal Land of Oz to the Emerald City is told through amazing rock, gospel and soul songs and energetic dances.

Flying Ducks Youth Theatre are very proud to present this spectacular award-winning musical adventure written by Charlie Smalls and William F. Brown. TheScarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion all join Dorothy on her quest, and there is still the matter of the Wicked Witch of the West to contend with!

‘The Houses In Between’ at York Literature Festival

‘The Houses In Between’ 

york-literature-festival-logoJoin two York writers as they read from their novels for young adults.

Joanna Ezekiel has been living in York since 2010. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Sussex University, and works as a creative writing tutor for the Open University and for the Open College of the Arts. In 2014 Indigo Dreams Publishing brought out Joanna’s young adult novel The Inside-Out House, described as ‘a poignant coming-of-age story, moving and beautifully told’ (Helen Cadbury). Joanna has also had three poetry pamphlets published, along with a full collection Centuries of Skin (Ragged Raven, 2010).

York-based Toni Bunnell is a musician, a wildlife biologist, a broadcaster and a writer of songs and stories in the genre of fantasy, faery and time travel. The Fidgit, an illustrated book of faery stories, and Samuel and the Stolen Words have been well received.

‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’ at Harrogate Theatre, North Yorkshire

Following the fantastic sell-out success of Ugly Duckling and Three Little Pigs, Northern Ballet is delighted to announce our latest ballet for children, Elves & the Shoemaker.

A hard-working but poor shoemaker struggles to earn enough money to support his family. The kind-hearted man decides to give his final pair of shoes, all he has left in the world, to a poor lady in need of help. The next morning the shoemaker awakes to find that his last piece of leather has been transformed into the most magnificent pair of shoes overnight. He discovers that not only are the shoes beautiful; they are also magical. Who is the mysterious maker of these marvellous shoes?

Retelling the famous Brothers Grimm story, Elves & the Shoemaker is the perfect opportunity to introduce your little ones to live ballet, music and theatre. After the BAFTA award-winning TV adaptation of Ugly Duckling for CBeebies, make sure you don’t miss this enchanting new production.

These child friendly performances will last approximately 40 minutes.

Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs is setting sail for an adventure at West Yorkshire Playhouse following a rollicking award winning run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, London Wonderground and Southbank Centre!

When Flinn discovers a pirate hiding in the school supply closet, it’s all aboard, me hearties, for a real live pirate adventure! Captain Stubble needs Flinn’s help to find his stolen ship, but there are some mean pirate dinosaurs on the loose, and Flinn and his friends soon sail into trouble….Will fearless Flinn be able to captain the ship and defeat the pirate dinosaurs?  Will Pirate Pearl be brave enough to battle the dangerous dinos and will terrified Tom be back in time for Tea?  All aboard for a non-stop action packed theatrical experience with live music, puppetry, physical performance and dastardly dinosaurs!

Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs has been brought to life by Les Petits Theatre Company; the exciting children’s theatre company from the team behind Internationally acclaimed theatre company, Les Enfants Terribles.  Adapted for the stage by Nicole Lewis and Oliver Lansley and is based on the award-winning book by Purple Ronnie creator, Giles Andreae and Russell Ayto.

ALL ABOARD! The stunning adaptation of E. Nesbit’s classic novel returns to the National Railway Museum for Summer 2015. Set in a new, purpose built 1000 seater venue, this breathtaking show, featuring the original locomotive from the film version of The Railway Children, is a truly unique theatrical experience.

Join Roberta, Peter and Phyllis on an adventure of a lifetime as they tell the story of how they became The Railway Children.

After two sell out seasons in York in 2008 and 2009, the production went on to delight audiences at London’s Waterloo Station and in Toronto and won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment.

Currently running at London’s Kings Cross Theatre, the show will open in York as part of York Theatre Royal’s season at the National Railway Museum.
