The Children’s Bookshow

The Children’s Bookshow is an annual tour of authors and illustrators, united in encouraging children to develop a lifelong love of literature. The event began in 2003, as a means of showcasing books and authors featured in Simply the Best Books for Children (published by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education.) Through meeting authors and illustrators who are passionate about their work, the Children’s Bookshow hopes that children will, in turn, be inspired as readers and writers themselves.

Following the success of the event in 2003, it has gone from strength to strength and in 2012 it  reached 6302 children and teachers across 12 venues throughout the country.  The event is aimed at schoolchildren and their teachers. In 2013, featured events include Michael Rosen’s Centrally Heated Knickers, Beegu illustrator Alexis Deacon and  award-winning poet Jackie Kay. Also appearing at venues up and down the country are medieval historical novel-writer Kevin Crossley-Holland , ‘Best New Illustrator’ award-winner Catherine Rayner and former puppeteer Jessica Souhami. Listen to author Fabio Geda in discussion with Nicolette Jones, children’s book editor of The Sunday Times and hear how he interpreted a true story about a young girl’s incredible journey from Afghanistan to Italy. Vistors to the London event with Daniel Morden and Oliver Wilson-Dickson can look forward to feisty fairy tales and fiddle playing.
