The FT Weekend Literary Festival

OxfordLitFestWe’ve been busy adding all the events for children and young people at this year’s FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival. And what a line-up! Philip Pullman will be in conversation with Nicolette Jones (Children’s Book Editor of The Sunday Times). This event – his only major public event to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the publication of ‘His Dark Materials’ – is not to be missed.

Other highlights  include Judith Kerr discussing the memories which inspired When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit and former Children’s Laureate, Anthony Browne introducing his special interactive shape game.

What else unites Cressida Cowell and Lauren Child apart from the fact that they’re both bestselling authors? It turns out they’re old school friends too and they’ll be sharing their memories (including some old school photos) with Nicolette Jones.

There’s a focus on rising stars in YA fiction and a fascinating insight into the world of book bloggers. As well as sharing their tips on which books to add to your ‘must-read’ pile, they offer tips on how to get started as a book blogger or vlogger.

Aspiring illustrators can help The Pirates Next Door creator Jonny Duddle design a brand new pirate character and join James Mayhew for a family friendly performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, accompanied by his live drawing and storytelling.

This year the festival is partnering with The Story Museum so festival-goers can combine a day at the festival with events at The Story Museum. Don’t forget to take time to browse your new signed books and have a cuppa at Sophie’s Kitchen while you’re there.
